Why isn't wrestling today, as popular as it was in the 90's and early 2000's

Because when it was popular it was getting a lot of negative attention from the media who felt like the WWF was pushing the censors too much, while characters like Stone Cold Steve Austin and D-Generation X were popular they were also known for things that were inappropriate for younger viewers. Like Austin sticking his middle fingers up at people, drinking beer, cursing and DX telling people to “Suck It" by pointing down to their penises and showing their buttocks on TV.
Then you have characters like The Rock who called people candy asses and told them to stick objects in their candy asses every week and suck on monkey's nipples and testicles.
Plus the violence in these matches were extremely dangerous especially the Hell in a Cell match with Mankind almost dying from getting thrown off the roof of the cage by The Undertaker and getting slammed on thumbtacks.
It even got people killed, Owen Hart fell to his death from the rafters during a pay per view in Kansas City Missouri and now his wife doesn't allow the WWE to profit off of him (which is why he doesn't get mentioned in the new episodes).
Due to lot of the stuff that caused the media to want nothing to do with the WWE due to a lot of the stuff that they used to do, that's why you see what you see right now. Plus the adult oriented and raunchy style of TV isn't popular anymore because it's been done already.
