While “Christ the redeemer” statue in Rio de Janeiro has been named for many years as one of the 7 wonders of the world, many have missed to recognize an iconic football stadium on which the iconic statue looks down to.
This iconic stadium should also be included in the 7 wonders of the world.
Or best, be named the 8th wonder of the world.
Simce the “god of soccer” has been globally known to dwell in Brazil, the Brazilians decided to build a temple where that god will reside.
Construction started in 1948 after FIFA awarded Brazil the right to host the 1950 world cup.
Though it was partially finished and a 200,000 seated capacity was ready for the first and final match of the copa Mundial.
Reports have it that the total attendance for the Brazil Vs Uruguay final match was almost 218,000 because most Brazilians had to illegally climb and break in to see the match.
Brazil needed just a draw to win the tournament, but goalkeeper Barbosa made an expensive error that made thousands of soccer loving Brazilians to weep for one week and the name “Maracanazo” was given to describe it.
